Chris Pettit, executive director of the Washington State Conservation Commission (SCC), has been re-appointed to serve on the Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Federal Advisory Committee (FRRCC).
Pettit was one of 20 members appointed to the panel by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) earlier this month. This is his second time serving on the committee.
"It’s an honor to serve on the FRRCC," Pettit said, noting that "the voices of rural and agricultural communities are vital to the work happening at the intersection of climate change, farming, and ranching.”
“This is an opportunity for Washington state to have a seat at the table during these important discussions.”
The FRRCC, established in 2007, provides the EPA Administrator with policy advice, information, and recommendations on issues important to agricultural and rural communities. A primary focus of the committee will be evaluating the EPA's policies and programs around agriculture and climate change.
The FRRCC advises the agency on how to help farmers and ranchers reduce carbon emissions, conserve natural resources, and improve resiliency in our food and agriculture systems.
The FRRCC typically convenes twice a year in Washington, D.C. Meetings are generally open to the public. For more information on the FRRCC, visit its information page or read the EPA's recent press release on the committee's new and returning appointees.
