Our mission is to promote stewardship of county natural resources through education, implementing natural resource conservation practices, and fostering a stewardship ethic in partnership with landowners, residents, in collaboration with agencies and other organizations. To support our local community in taking action to address climate change.
We help landowners conserve natural resources by providing free services, project "cost share" funding and technical assistance such as farm and forest plan development. The District has recently initiated the San Juan Islands Forest Health Collaborative to begin addressing wildfire prevention and forest health needs. We also host the San Juan Islands Youth Conservation Corps, and partner with our local power utility OPALCO on energy conservation outreach and education.
Meets the fourth Friday of each month from 8:30 am – 10:30 am in the conference room at 530 Guard Street, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Contact the district for current information.
San Juan Islands Conservation District, in collaboration with Coast Salish tribes and local partners, is restoring Garry oak ecosystems by thinning forests, creating nurse logs, producing biochar, and replanting native species, while fostering a skilled local restoration workforce.
The San Juan Islands Conservation District (SJICD) is honored to collaborate with the Northwest Indian College in the formation and development of the Coast Salish Guardians Program on the Lummi Reservation.
