The Nookachamps Basin is one of several project areas where funding is available to implement the Puget Sound Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).

Project goal
  • Improve water quality and salmon habitat
Key activities
  • Lower temperature in streams by reducing non-native vegetation and replanting with native vegetation
  • Install bank stabilizing large woody debris (LWD) to improve fish habitat and reduce bank erosion and fine sediment input into the water, which can smother redds
  • Install livestock exclusion fencing in an effort to reduce the potential to pollute nearby streams
  • Install small-scale structural best management practices such as gutters or manure storage to further reduce the potential to pollute
About the watershed
  • Nookachamps watershed creates a portion of the border between WRIA 3 on the north and WRIA 5 on the south
  • Recent increase in emphasis for salmon habitat enhancement and pollution identification and correction (PIC)
  • Drains directly to the Skagit River
