Nature & Purpose of the Position

The Communications and Outreach Assistant will support and help implement the District’s communications and outreach programming, under the guidance of the Communications and Outreach Manager. This position’s primary responsibility is collaborating across District programs to create and execute communications and outreach strategies that promote the District’s mission and goals. We seek an effective communicator who is interested in learning about dynamic outreach strategies, grassroots community engagement, digital branding, and local conservation issues.

Position Details:

Position Type:   Full Time (40 hours/week) with benefits

Compensation: Paid hourly depending on experience: $21.21 - $24.39 starting rate

Location: The office location is 11018 NE 51st Circle, Vancouver, WA 98682. Hybrid work environment with required in-person field work and events.

Position Summary

The Research and Monitoring Coordinator’s primary purpose is to assist the Research and Monitoring Program Manager, the Director, and the Board of Supervisors in the development and implementation of monitoring programs that assess the effectiveness of conservation practices implemented by the district. Serving as an integral member of a team of conservation professionals working both in the field and office. The position will plan, organize, and coordinate stream, wetland, soil, habitat, and other monitoring programs and projects; manage and analyze data associated with the programs and projects; assist with writing and managing grants; help to organize and coordinate public events; supervise staff, interns, and volunteers; and assist other staff in carrying out miscellaneous grant or contract-related tasks as part of the district’s annual plan of work. The successful candidate will become a member of the district’s team of conservation professionals working together to enhance and protect natural resources within the district’s boundaries.

Agriculture Resource Planner-Snohomish CD

Primary duties include providing technical assistance to agricultural operators through site visits, resource evaluations, and natural resource conservation management plans; providing outreach and education to the public about conservation planning and best management practices (BMPs); and implementing BMPs and conservation practices. A successful candidate will have knowledge of BMPs and natural resource management priorities relevant to small and large agricultural operations in the Puget Sound region, and the ability to engage with diverse community members to assess needs, design conservation plans, communicate recommendations, and implement practices.

Seasonal Restoration Technician

King Conservation District

King Conservation District is seeking a Season Restoration Technician to join the team!

This term limited (4 month) position serves as an entry level technical member of a team of conservation professionals in a growing, county wide, natural resource management special purpose district. This is based in King County, WA on multiple project sites in mostly rural areas. This position will report to and work closely with the Agricultural Drainage Project Manager.

This work takes place on privately-owned farmland where we aim to strike a balance between restoring riparian areas and improving agricultural drainage. Due to the critical threat to native salmon populations, all salmon-bearing watercourses in King County are heavily regulated to protect water quality and wildlife habitat.

The bulk of time is spent working with landowners and/or land managers to coordinate the installation of native plant buffers, the removal of invasive species, and removing and relocating aquatic species from restoration areas prior to construction activities. This position will also complete a variety of ecological tasks such as plant surveying, water quality monitoring, beaver habitat identification, and salmonid surveys.

Riparian Stewardship Resource Specialist

King Conservation District

King Conservation District is seeking a Riparian Stewardship Resource Specialist to join their team!

KCD’s Riparian Stewardship Resource Specialists serve as technical members of a team and are responsible for coordinating and delivering services for KCD’s Urban and Rural Riparian Stewardship Programs, which promote voluntary conservation activities along privately-owned freshwater shorelines to enhance water quality and wildlife habitat. These positions also facilitate enrollment and service delivery of the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP), a joint federal and state funded program administered in partnership between the Farm Service Agency (FSA), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Washington State Conservation Commission (WSCC), and conservation districts.

These positions manage a portfolio of restoration projects, adding new projects annually and working with riparian program support staff to coordinate the monitoring and maintenance of existing projects. Other primary responsibilities include working independently and collaboratively with the Riparian Stewardship Team and other King Conservation District teams to provide technical assistance services to King County landowners with freshwater aquatic resources and community groups with a riparian stewardship focus.

Work is usually varied with complexity and involves routinely applying advanced principles and concepts in day-to-day work. Actions are typically short and mid-term and focused on what and how. These positions help leadership to plan program goals and objectives.

This position directly reports to the Skagit Conservation District Manager but due to the statewide nature of the work will generally be self-directed in day-to-day coordination with NRCS, SCC, the Washington Association of Land Trusts (WALT), and land trust/program applicant partners requesting assistance. The position has the option to be fully remote or hybrid at the Skagit CD (or other host CD).

WeedWise Technician Clackamas

Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is seeking qualified candidates for multiple WeedWise Technicians (Seasonal) to support program efforts in the Mt Hood National Forest and across Clackamas County to help protect natural areas and recreational opportunities.

The WeedWise Technician is a full-time, limited-duration, position subject to available funding. The WeedWise technician assists with weed management, outreach, data management, and associated tasks throughout Clackamas County, but is generally focused on the Mt Hood National Forest. Tasks will include implementing weed control activities using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, including coordination with restoration contractors.

Resource Conservation Planner

South Yakima Conservation District

South Yakima Conservation District (SYCD) is hiring a Resource Conservation Planner.

This full-time position will address on-farm natural resource issues by providing direct one-on-one technical assistance to private landowners and voluntary participants within the boundaries of SYCD. This position entails working closely with other agencies, including the Dairy Nutrient Management Program of Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA).

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8AM – 4:30PM.

Work Setting: Work is performed both indoors in an office environment and in the field.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel is an expectation and may be required on a regular basis within the District’s boundaries.

Customer Interactions: Interactions will be frequent with other agencies such as NRCS, WSDA, other Conservation Districts, local landowners, consultants, community members, and other partners.

Salary and Benefits: FTE $3,400 – $4,200 per month dependent on education, experience, and qualifications. Benefits include major holidays, overtime, stipend for medical insurance premiums, accrued vacation, sick leave, and a 403(b) retirement program (employee-managed).
